School of Commerce Warri yesterday emerged winners of the 2019 Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup after defeating Zappa Mixed School, Asaba 2-1.
Ime Emekini who was named the Most Valuable Player scored both goals as the Warri based school carted home the N1million prize money and a brand new 18-seater Corolla Bus.
Emekini was equally rewarded with N600,00 and two laptops.
The exciting encounter at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State capital, was graced by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, top government functionaries, president of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, two ex-Super Eagles internationals, Victor Agali and Ifeanyi Udeze, among others soccer enthusiasts.
Okowa hailed Zenith Bank for partnering Delta State government in the development of sports with the revival of Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup which its fourth edition ended at the Stephen Keshi Stadium yesterday.
Okowa said the benefit of the partnership was unquantifiable considering that more than 800 schools took part in this year’s edition.
“I salute Zenith Bank for the partnership. It is an opportunity for us to have a partnership of this magnitude with the bank. It is important to give these young people the opportunity to discover their talents and that is what this partnership has been able to do.
“In Delta, we take all round development of our children important. As we continue to develop education, we have also invested in the growth of sports and the results are there for everyone to see,” he said.
Meanwhile, Destiny Secondary School, Ughelli defeated Okotie-Eboh Grammar School, Sapele 3-0 in the third place match and were rewarded with N500,000 and N100,000 respectively.
